Benji Filmer is an artist, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and mixing engineer based in Birmingham. Blending elements of ambient folk, indie, and pop, his music is defined by heartfelt songwriting, rich textures, and an intimate, captivating sound.Alongside his solo work, Benji is an active mixing engineer, working with a range of folk artists and bands. He is also a member of the folk band Crossroads, continuing his deep involvement in the UK folk scene both on stage and behind the desk.Benji’s passion for music began at a young age, growing up playing piano, guitar, and singing along to his favourite musicals. His love for songwriting and production developed through his teenage years. Since then, Benji has received strong support from BBC Introducing, with multiple plays across BBC Radio Norfolk and Suffolk. In January 2023, he was invited to perform live in the BBC Introducing Live Room at BBC Radio Suffolk, showcasing new material.As a live performer, Benji has played extensively across the UK, supporting touring artists including Meryl Streek (sold-out show at The Victoria, Birmingham), The Voice contestant Vince Freeman at The Sunflower Lounge (2024), and actor and musician Niall McNamme at a sold-out Birmingham show in 2025.His music has also gained attention from major indie folk tastemakers, with features on leading playlists and curator platforms including Indie Folk Central and Alexrainbirdmusic.Originally from Norfolk, Benji moved to Birmingham in 2023 to study BMus Music Technology at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Through the Conservatoire, he became part of Joe Broughton’s Conservatoire Folk Ensemble, the world’s largest folk band, performing to thousands at major festivals such as Kendal Calling and Secret Garden Party. In 2025, he was invited to perform one of his own songs to a festival audience at New Forest Folk Festival.Whether performing, producing, or mixing, Benji Filmer continues to carve out a distinctive place in the contemporary folk and indie music scene.
